TOXIC HABITATS

A DESIGN BY FLORA ZHOU

Type:
Animated Short Film /Speculative Design

Duration:
01-03.2023

The Anthropocene has left our planet with branded artifacts that are non-compostable. Plastics are entering our geo-layers, infiltrating our soil and, turning the planet into a plasticsphere.

What if plastics end up being a part of the natural system? What does a new multispecies entanglement look like in the ocean, for example, where plastic waste is rapidly accumulating?

Toxic Habitats imagines an alternative way to live with plastics and waste. Restoring a habitat in the sea for plants and creatures. A metamorphosis for the toxins to reshape their value. It’s miserable to think about the future that we can’t eliminate these forever-materials, but what if we embrace them instead?
